Located about 25 km east of the central capital, Kathmandu, at an altitude of 4,800 feet above sea level and at 27.37 degrees latitude and 81.31 degrees longitude, this school is situated in Ward No. 6 of the ancient city of Banepa Municipality, in a small but picturesque valley. The school was established in the year 2027 B.S. through the efforts of education enthusiasts from the village, including Prithvidhwaj KC, Meghnath Koirala, and other respected individuals. Initially, funds were collected from the villagers, and with the amount raised, a salary of Rs. 50 per month was arranged for priest Janardhan Neupane to start teaching. The school began with around 20-25 students.

At that time, classes were conducted in a single room of the Shreekhandpur Village Panchayat building. Eventually, the school expanded to operate all five grades in the same building. In 2055 B.S., local dignitaries and social workers decided to relocate the school to its current location, as the previous building was near the highway, posing a risk of accidents for the students. After 2055 B.S., grades 6, 7, and 8 were gradually added, making it a lower secondary school. In 2080 B.S., permission was granted to upgrade to the secondary level, and the school now offers education up to grade 10.

The surrounding area of the school is predominantly inhabited by the KC family, with some Newar and Brahmin families also residing there. Initially, the school was named after the local Bhakteshwor Mahadev temple. However, in 2081 B.S., the Shree Gosainkunda Basic School, located in the same ward, was merged with this school, and it is now operated under the name “Shree Bhakteshwor Gosainkunda Secondary School.”

Kathmandu University, one of the nation’s prestigious institutions, is also located about 500 meters from this school. Additionally, the school’s service area includes the sacred site of Naimisharanya, also known as Small Gosainsthan, where an annual fair is held during Rishi Tarpani.

Due to the increasing attraction of urban facilities and foreign employment, rapid population growth is occurring in this area. As a result, the number of migrants settling here has significantly increased, leading to religious, linguistic, and cultural diversity. Economically, most residents are engaged in trade, while some work in jobs, run small businesses, and a few are involved in agriculture.

The majority of the students attending this school are children residing within Ward No. 6 of Banepa Municipality. However, some students come from other wards and nearby Dhulikhel Municipality. Less than 5% of the students belong to the local residents of the school’s service area. Most students come from families that have migrated here for work, living in rented rooms, assisting in shops and businesses, working as daily wage laborers, and belonging to marginalized, minority, landless, and economically disadvantaged groups. This has had a direct impact on the quality of education provided.

The school offers English-medium instruction from the Early Childhood Development Center up to grade 5, using English textbooks. Additionally, a classroom teaching system is implemented up to grade 3. The school has made appropriate arrangements for the necessary minimum teaching materials required for quality education.
